To become a Dogman, you need to complete a Dogging Course at a licensed and certified training centre. This is because certain industries require different qualifications. This is particularly true for the industries that require high-risk work: these certifications are needed to protect every person on the worksite, including you. But, for those starting out in the mining, oil, and gas industries, what is a dogman course? And, why would you need it? This blog by the KI Group will explain everything you need to know about the Dogging Course offered at our centre in Perth.
The KI Group operates in Perth and the Belmont area in Western Australia. We are proud to offer short training courses and high-risk certifications for workers in the construction and mining industries.
What is Dogging?
Dogging is a necessary aspect of certain industries. It normally consists of two main aspects, which are:
- A slinging technique used for moving a load
- The directing of a hoist or crane operator who is moving a load.
The person that engages in the dogging is known as a Dogman. All dogmen on a worksite will have the right licensing and qualifications to perform this work.
Dogging is different from rigging, although they are frequently considered similar. Dogging is mostly slinging work that requires a judgment of what techniques, equipment and machinery are suitable. However, rigging is a more generalised term. It covers the activities of moving, placing or securing loads using mechanical load-shifting equipment.
Who Needs a Dogman License?
If you are engaging in some form of dogging work, you’ll need a dogman ticket or license. While slinging a load might look simple to the untrained eye, it is much more than simply attaching cables. You need to have an understanding and knowledge of the range of lifting gear to assess what’s sensible and know what method to use for the slinging. A license for dogging can be obtained through a Dogman course.
What is a Dogman Course?
A Dogman Course is a training qualification designed for participants to gain the necessary skills to plan, prepare, and complete dogging work.
